Who We Are

Mission

Truth Study
is a ministry at Suny New Paltz whose special aim is to promote and foster an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ through exposure to biblical truth. We accomplish this mission through public evangelistic proclamation of the Gospel, through expository teaching at our weekly group meetings, and through personal discipleship.

Meeting Time/Location

The Truth Study meets in SUB 407 at 7:00pm on Thursday nights

What Is Christianity?

Who's to say what's right and wrong? I mean, common, there are billions of people in the world, each of them believing their own religion/philosophy. What makes one better than the other, and if one were better how would we even know it?

These are great questions to ask, and there are answers to them. But did you know that Jesus broke all our modern social taboos concerning religion when, in John 14:6, He stated, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me"? Christianity believes in an absolute truth advocated by and found in the person of Jesus Christ. That's what being a Christian is all about. Literally, Christians are, "little Christ's," or, "Christ's followers." When we say that we're Christians we're saying we follow Jesus. In verse 15 Jesus says that if we love Him we'll keep His commandments. The desire to keep God's commandments comes from a heart transformed by Christ in such a way that we desire to keep His commandments out of love for Him. How does this happen you may ask? The answer is, we receive the Gospel ("good news") and become "born again." So what's the Gospel and how does one become "born again," thereby being able to follow Christ? Well, before we can get to the good news (Gospel), we need to go over some bad news. Before you go any further, click on the link below and take the "good person test," to find out what the good and bad news are.

Good Person Test

Now that you know the bad news and good news, what are you going to do about it? Jesus said in John 3:3, "unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." Being born again means to be changed on the inside into a completely different person through receiving the Gospel (Christ's finished work on the cross.) The choice is made to you. For more information, or to have your questions answered check out our resource page, or better yet, come out to a group meeting!

Statement of Faith

Section I. The Name and Purpose of this Organization

1.01 The Name of this organization shall be “The Truth Study”
1.02 Statement of Faith: This organization functions for the purpose of spreading the truth of
God as revealed in His Word (Prov. 9:10) through evangelism, discipleship, Bible Study, and
Prayer. The official statement of faith for this organization is as follows:
1. We believe in the inerrancy of the New Testament and the Hebrew Scriptures as inspired by
God and supreme and final in authority in faith and life (Romans15:1, 1 Corinthians 2:13; 10:11,
2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:19-20, 3:16)
2. We believe in the one Triune God who exists eternally in the three persons of the Father Son,
and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1.1, 1 John 5:7)
3. We believe Jesus Christ to be the only begotten son of God, born of a virgin and currently
sitting at the right hand of the Father. (Luke 1:30-35, 2:40, Philippians. 2:5-8, Hebrews. 7:25, 1
John 2:1-2)
4. We believe in a literal interpretation of the creation account presented in the book of Genesis
and reject any attempt to reconcile it with Darwinism. (Genesis 1-3, Matt. 19:4-6)
5. We believe God created the first people, Adam and Eve in His image; that they disobeyed God
and incurred physical and spiritual death and so consequently all men are now born with a sin
nature that separates them from God. (John 3:17-18, Romans 3:10-19, 5:12-21, Ephesians 2:1-3)
6. We believe Christ’s death on the cross was a substitutionary sacrifice for sin, and those who
believe on Him and repent of their sin will be justified and forgiven. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 1
Timothy 2:5-6, Romans 5:8)
7. We believe in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ and His ascension to heaven as well as
His current position as High Priest and Advocate of believers. (1 Corinthians 15:20-22, John
20:24-31, 1 John 2:1-2)
8. We believe salvation is wholly a work of God whereby God through His gracious power draws
a dead sinner unto himself and extends to him the unmerited gift of salvation. (John 6:44, Eph.
2:1-9, Rom. 8:29-30)
9. We believe all who repent of their sin and place their faith in Christ are indwelt by the Holy
Spirit who convict of sin, illuminates the Scripture, and empowers for godly living including
Christian service and being a witness for the Gospel of Christ. (John 14:26, 16:8, 1 John 5:6,
Rom. 8:14)
10. We believe in the glorious hope of the imminent, bodily, physical, personal return of Christ
Jesus in the future. (Matt. 16:27, Rev. 22:12)
11. We believe in the resurrection and judgement of the redeemed and unredeemed at the end of
time. We believe in the hope for the righteous of being in the eternal presence of God in Heaven,
and the eternal condemnation of the unrighteousness separated from God in Hell. (Matt 25:46;
Heb. 9:27; Rev. 21:8)

Section II. Philosophy of Ministry

The Truth Study is a non-denominational ministry supported by local area churches and as such is an extension of the ministry of participating local churches whose doctrine is in accordance with the Truth Study’s Statement of Faith. The New Testament recognizes only those ministries that are under the authority of elders/shepherds who have met the qualifications set forth in 1 Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-8. All spiritual gifts are to be used in the context of the church for the edification of the church (1 Cor. 12). As a result, the Truth Study believes that its unique ministry to SUNY New Paltz is ultimately under the human authority of qualified elders from representative churches. The Truth Study exists for the building up of the church, not as a substitute or means by which the church is drained of its own resources.
